Biography

German tenor Björn Christian Kuhn, graduated from the “Folkwang-Musikhochschule Essen“ in Musical Theater (singing, acting, dancing) with Prof. James McLean and studied Voice-Performance and Opera at McGill-University in Montréal, Canada with William Neill and Dixie Ross-Neill.
He was an Apprentice Artist with the Des Moines Metro Opera, USA. He has performed in several theaters and concert halls in Germany (eg. Berlin, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Frankfurt) as well as in other European Countries, Canada and the US, and is currently a member of the solo ensemble as opera and musical theater singer in the Oper Halle, Germany. His performing experiences as a soloist encompass many genres, including opera and operetta (The Bartered Bride, The Magic Flute, Tosca, Turandot, The cunning little vixen, Madame Butterfly, Die Fledermaus, Cosi fan tutte, Ariadne auf Naxos, Orphée aux enfers and others), concert (Oratorio, Evangelist in the Passions by Bach, Recitals) and musical theater (Title Role in the World Premiere of Eric Woolfsons Edgar Allan Poe, Cabaret, The Wizard of Oz, Fiddler on the roof, My fair Lady Comedian Harmonists, Dracula, The Scarlet Pimpernel a.o.) in Europe and North-America. With Musical Comedy & Chanson-programs he performs regularly throughout Germany (theaters, radio and TV). He has been the recipient of numerous awards, including 1st prize in the ‘Landeswettbewerb Chanson NRW‘ (Germany), 3rd prize in the ‘Bundeswettbewerb Gesang‘ (national voice-competition), international Comedy award „Magdeburger Kugelblitz“, ‘Folkwang-Preis‘ (performance award) and 1st prize in the NATS – Competition (Eastern region). He also was awarded the ‘Ambassadorial Scholarship‘ of the Rotary-Foundation.
